Day Four: Clouds

Finally a day with clouds! But the sky was completely overcast, so I couldn't get any good pictures of individual clouds. I decided to just put them in the background!

Day Five: Breakfast Today

I decided to skip Day Four (Clouds). Hopefully I can come back to it later. This breakfast is special because it was made for me by my sweet husband on our anniversary. He really, really wanted to do it, so when he wasn't able to find the bacon or biscuits I like from Aldi, he drove to buy them the morning of, after I told him not to worry about it.  I mean, it wasn't like my birthday, where the day is all about me =) Our anniversary is for the both of us, but he wanted to do this, so I didn't object too much! Needless to say, it was very delicious and a step-up from my usual bowl of oatmeal! Thanks honey! Just so you know, I took this photo the 10th of January and just left it sitting on my computer, waiting to be posted. So I am not quite so far behind as I seem!

Day Three: Hands

I am late! I know. But the photo I wanted to take of hands did not work out. The next day was clouds, and we happen to have had many cloudless, sunny days in a row! I may just have to get creative with that one! I do have Day Five done, so I may just add them out of order =)

This picture was taken with my new lens (which I love!) of me and my husband on our anniversary (3 years). We decided to do pictures at Waterfront Park and I used my tripod. However, I forgot the remote, so it was a little more work that I was expecting, but we had fun and got some cute shots. I think the more I use the tripod, the better the photos will turn out and the more confident I will get using it. I wish our thumbs were in focus, but you will understand by reading the paragraph below, plus the hands picture was an after thought, and it was getting very cold! I should have spent more time looking at the playback.

Bad news about my lens, the auto focus is not compatible with my camera, meaning I will always have to manually focus my pictures. In the long run, I think it will make me a better photographer, but for right now, it is giving me a headache! Literally...the image can look perfectly focused through the viewfinder and completely blurry in the playback! My head really starts to hurt as a result of looking so intently at the images. Oh well. That's what I get for assuming a Nikon autofocus lens would mean a Nikon autofocus lens....always read your manual before making a purchase! Nevertheless, I love it and probably would have purchased it anyways since it would have been a hundred dollars more to get the same lens that would be compatible.

Three years ago today, I walked down the aisle and married the man of my dreams. One year ago today, we found out we were having a baby girl. Hope to always remember these sweet moments! I am so thankful to our gracious God!

Enjoy the photo! And check out the I Heart Faces blog from the previous post. Love it!

Day Two Challenge: My Favorite Shoes

These are the first pair of shoes Tessa ever wore. They are her only size zeroes, and the only ones small enough to fit her feet when she was 6 months old. Just this week, she has moved up to size one! She loved wearing shoes for the first time. They made a neat noise when she clapped her feet together, and they were great to chew on! As a result, though these shoes were brand new (bought for her by my mom), you can see a tinge of yellow on them from all the chewing. Kinda gross, but she enjoyed it! She got compliments every time she wore them. And I have to agree; they are super cute!

Photography Challenge: Day One

So I chose a thirty-day challenge. I had three picked out and decided I would pick which one to do based on the first day's challenge. One was high heels. I didn't really feel much motivation for that one. The other two were both self-portraits. Ugh. I hate self-portraits. Or at least trying to do them. I am no good at tripod photography.

But then I remembered I had a big mirror in the bathroom I had recently painted and decided to attempt a mirror portrait rather than getting out the tripod. I took them in black and white just to see the effect. Here are my results!

I love the second and third one because it is me uncorrected. I have weird movements with my hands, arms, and face in my everyday life. I only notice when I see myself on video. I wish I had straightened up the camera on the third one, but I decided to still add it because that is how I hold my fingers when I am not thinking about it. I honestly hate this aspect of myself, but I like that it shows me how really look. Me and my younger sister agree that Emma Roberts has the same problem. Weird mouth movements when she talks, weird ways of holding her hands...maybe it's a skinny girl thing? God made my movements a bit odd, and I can't change it! Might as well embrace it.

The New Year

This year has seemed to fly by, though that is what everyone usually says at the end of the year. I celebrated my 2 year anniversary with my husband, found out we were having a baby girl on the same day (after being so certain we would have a boy!), gave birth (still amazed I did that) in May, and have watched our baby girl transform from a tiny, wrinkly newborn to a chubby, bouncy 7 month old. I held my good friend's newborn boy about an hour ago, and I couldn't help but want another one already! There is something so precious about their little grunts, stretches, and faces they make in their sleep! I miss it! But each stage is special, and I am thoroughly enjoying my silly baby girl! She constantly makes us laugh, and it is so fun to watch her discovering the world. Each moment I've had with her has been treasured, and I am thankful God has allowed me to be with her full-time. This doesn't mean that every moment has been easy! Many days I have definitely wanted to pull my hair out! But from the beginning I knew it would all pass quickly, so I did my best to cherish each moment, even the hard ones.

As I approach the new year, I have decided to do a photography challenge. I am not planning long-term, but thinking perhaps a 30 day challenge or a weekly challenge might be best for me. I was just looking at a few on Pinterest, and after I decide, I hope to post the challenge and the subsequent picture on here. I have been attempting to edit some overdue 6 month pictures today of Tessa and so wish I had someone to just show me what to do! I learn so much easier with a teacher. Don't you hate when you spend over an hour doing something only to find out it  could have been done in 5 minutes? Ugh. I am determined though. I want to be a family photographer and I really believe it will not be another passing passion. I want to stick with this one! My dream is to one day stay at home full-time with our kids and do photography on the side. I ordered a lens two days ago, a fixed focal length, f/1.8, 35mm that I'm pretty excited about! Simple lens that I believe is a good investment. I can't wait to have a wider aperture! Ha. So anyways, I think having a new lens will definitely contribute to motivation for the photography challenge and hopefully to an improvement in my photography.

This year has also been difficult with the death of a member of our first small group from Sojourn, a friend from home who was part of our small group there, and Crockett's uncle. They occurred one after the other, making the end of this year really focused around death. I am looking towards 2012 knowing more death will surely coming, still hoping it doesn't, but trusting in the Lord to get me through. The reality is that I could lose my husband and/or my baby girl in 2012. I could die. Everything I know could be over. But I will continue to pursue photography, scrapbooking, headband-making, sewing, etc. I will continue to enjoy these small things that are meaningless in the scheme of eternity because they provide me with happiness and excitement and passion. I will continue to enjoy my husband and my baby girl, my family, my church and my friends, because they are the great joys God has blessed me with during my time on earth. I will enjoy the everyday miracles of ordinary life--Tessa's first steps, welcoming more newborns into the world, snowing falling, flowers blooming,--because though life on earth is short, it does not have to be void of enjoyment in the everyday. I may even be expecting again this year =) who knows? I pray I can grow in my relationship with the Lord, share the Gospel with my mouth (I am prone to shyness), and enjoy the time He has given me just for the sake of enjoying it.

May my life this next year be a reflection of knowing Him. May others, especially those I care about the most that do not really know Him, see the joy and abundance that is only possible through a life lived for Him.
